Chemical Peels
The term ‘chemical peel’ can sound scary or off-putting to those who are new to the world of professional skin treatments, however, the use of chemical peels to improve the appearance of the skin dates back as far as the ancient Egyptians.
A Chemical peel is a professional skin treatment which utilises different types of acids such as Alpha Hydroxy Acids, Beta Hydroxy Acids and Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) to safely and efficiently exfoliate dead and damaged skin cells to provoke the regeneration of healthy new ones.
The benefits of chemical peels are as wide-ranging as increased luminosity and glow to effectively treating skin conditions such as acne and pigmentation. Peels are categorised as either light/superficial, medium or deep depending on the layer of skin they target.

Superficial peels
These peels target the outermost layer of the skin called the stratum corneum to gently exfoliate dead skin cells which build up on the surface, causing dullness and congestion. They are ideal if your skin is feeling dehydrated and dull or lacking in luminosity and glow. We typically recommend them as preperation for for deeper, more effective peels.
Medium peels
Medium depth chemical peels target the epidermal layer of the skin and are fantastic at treating the following skin concerns:
- controlling active acne and breakouts including open comedones (blackheads) closed comedones (whiteheads), papules and pustules.
- Mild-medium acne scarring
- Large dilated pores
- All signs of ageing including uneven skin tone and texture, lines and wrinkles, thinning skin and lack of hydration
- Excess oil production
- Post-inflammatory hyperpigmention (PIH) in darker skin types (Fitzpatrick 4-6) who are unsuitable for deeper medical peels.
Deeper NURSE/DOCTOR only peels
Deeper chemical peels target the dermis, the deeper layer of the skin where hyaluronic acid and collagen reside. They are the most effective peel to reverse signs of ageing such as deep static lines and wrinkles and to target and treat pigmentation which sits in the deeper layers of the skin such as melasma or long standing solar lentigos caused by sun and environmental damage. Deeper peels are also recommended for acne scarring such as box, ice pick and rolling scars.
Chemical peels can be used on the face, neck, chest and hands to treat any of the above skin concerns. Your medical practitioner will recommend the most suitable depth of peel for you and select the most appropriate acid or combination of acids based on your individual skin concerns. All of our peels are combined with LED light therapy which optimises treatment results.
A consultation will be required prior to treatment.
