The October issue of Health & Wellbeing magazine features Skin Emporium and our medical director’s dermatology advice in the article ” Tune into your skincare cycle”.

Have you ever thought about switching up your skincare to suit your cycle? We all know that our skin can undergo changes thanks to fluctuating hormone cycles, and a lot of us associate getting our period with getting a pesky spot or two, but did you know that adapting your skincare accordingly can help you achieve a glowing complexion all month long.

There are actually four phases that make up our menstrual cycles; the menstrual phase; the follicular phase; the ovulation phase; and the luteal phase. The article uncovers the facts about syncing your skincare to your cycle and reveals which products you should be applying, week by week.

What our medical director had to say ” You may find your skin feels a little drier than usual the first week after your period has ended, due to the decline in oestrogen. At this time you could benefit from added hydration in the form of serums, especially those packed with hyaluronic acid. Stick to gentle cleansers that retain moisture levels.” She adds that during the luteal phase the surge of progesterone and testosterone can cause our skin to produce more sebum than at other times of the month , which can lead to blocked pores, among other things. She suggests” increasing your use of exfoliating acids, during this time in your cycle to soak up any excess oils  and to unclog pores.”
