We are asked every day for our tips for better skin, here’s our top 5! Best of all, they are universal and suitable for every skin type..

  1. Sunscreen, sunscreen, SUNSCREEN!!

If you only do one thing for your skin make it this! The single most important tip for healthy, glowing skin is to apply a broad spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher every single day. And, no the SPF in your make up doesn’t count, it is simply not effective protection. You are looking for UVA,UVB and HEV (blue light) filters to protect you from sun spots, pigmentation, melasma, and premature lines and wrinkles. If you aren doing this already now is the time to start.

2. Exfoliate (just not with St Ives)

Exfoliation helps to remove the build up of dead skin cells, revealing the newer, smoother skin underneath. We recommend using chemical exfoliators such as glycolic, lactic and salicylic acid over physical ones because they tend to be gentler and more effective on the skin. chemical exfoliants optimise skin-cell turnover and lead to a more even, glowing complexion. Just remember to avoid harsh scrubs containing pits or abrasive beads as they can cause micro-tears in the skin.

3. Add in Antioxidants

The most common and effective is L-ascorbic acid, known as vitamin C. What does it do? Reverses oxidative damage from sun exposure which would otherwise build up causing oxidative stress and leading to skin damage. We recommend the Obagi Professional-C serums, which come in strengths 10%, 15% and 20%.

4. Another vitamin, this time A

Vitamin A-related compounds (retinoids) are really good for giving you bright and glowing skin as well as well as fighting acne, dark spots and fine lines. You have probably recognise the name retinol or it’s more effective cousins in prescription form, tretinoin or Retin-A. They all work the same way by increasing skin cell turnover which slows with age, and tends to be ineffective in patients with acne. Adding one to your skin care routine in the P.M. ensures you will be glowing!

5.You are an individual, and so is your skin.

Put simply, what works for someone else, may not work for you.
These skin tips are universal, but that doesn’t mean we don’t recommend small tweaks for different skin types. If you would like further advice, or to discuss an effective skin care routine book a complementary skin consultation below or call us 02086 171 121.
