The treatment we are known for! Tear trough filler gives you an instantly refreshed and well rested look.

What is a ‘Tear Trough’?

A tear trough is a hollowing underneath the eyes that causes them to appear tired and shadowed.

What causes Tear Troughs?

Tear troughs are caused by a loss of volume in the deep fat compartment known as the sub orbicularis oculi fat (SOOF) which is a layer of fat in the inferior orbital area. Tear toughs can be genetic and therefore appear at an early age for some people. For most others, they will begin to notice the development of tear trough hollows from their late 20’s onwards because of the ageing process where deep fat pads start to deflate.

How do we treat them?

Tear troughs can be treated safely using hyaluronic acid dermal filler to replace the lost volume. The hyaluronic acid smooths and plumps out the hollows rejuvenating the under-eye contour.

Is it painful?

The thought of being injected anywhere near your eyes can be unsettling. You’ll be pleased to hear however that the tear troughs are one of the more comfortable areas of the face to treat. This is because we use a cannula (a thin blunt instrument) instead of a needle to fill the under-eye area. This means we don’t need to go anywhere near the eye with a needle. The cannula is inserted through one small entry hole made on either side of the cheek and glides under the skin to comfortably deposit the filler.

Is there any downtime?

Because we use a cannula, this significantly reduces the risk of post treatment bruising, so most people only have a small injection mark to their cheeks where the cannula was inserted. You can return to your usual activities straight away although we advise avoiding heavy physical exercise for the first 24-48hrs post treatment to allow the filler to settle.

How many treatments will I need?

Most people need 1-2 syringes (1-2mls) of filler to achieve their desired results. When treating the tear troughs, we only fill to 70% correction as over filling this area could create an undesirable puffy appearance.

How long do the results last?

Results last an average of 12-18 months. The filler breaks down gradually over this time as it is naturally metabolised by the body.

Am I a suitable candidate?

Not everyone is a suitable candidate for tear trough filler which is why we advise a consultation with our Medical Director prior to treatment to assess your suitability. Tear tough filler is most suitable for people who have a visible hollowing and tight, healthy skin. Tear trough filler is not suitable for those who have loose, saggy skin (skin laxity) under their eyes or who have a lot of puffiness and fluid retention under the eyes. These concerns can be best addressed with other treatments or surgery.

Is Tear Trough Filler Safe?

Thankfully serious complications of filler treatments are extremely rare. All elective injectable treatments carry risks of temporary side effects such as bruising and swelling, but these are significantly reduced by using cannulas along with our advanced injection techniques. Our Medical Director Melissa has performed thousands of Tear Trough filer treatments over the course of her 10-year career and is an award-winning expert in tear trough rejuvenation.
